Thinking about volunteering in Thailand? Our guide to the volunteer in Thailand visa, health & safety requirements will help you prepare with confidence
π Volunteer in Thailand Visa Requirements (Exemption & Visa on Arrival)
Thailand has recently updated its visa rules, which is great news for many international volunteers. As of 15 July 2024, nationals of 93 countries and territories are entitled to a Visa Exemption Scheme. This lets you stay in Thailand for up to 60 days for tourism and you can extend your stay for another 30 days at Thai immigration (maximum 90 days total at immigration officerβs discretion). This can cover many short volunteer placements with Atlas Volunteers.
If youβre from one of 31 countries/territories eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VoA), you can apply directly at designated immigration checkpoints for tourism purposes. VoA currently allows stays of up to 15 days.
Check the official Royal Thai Consulate pages for the most up-to-date lists and requirements:

Regardless of your route, youβll typically need:
- A passport valid for at least six months beyond your stay
- Proof of onward travel (return or onward ticket)
- Sufficient funds for your time in Thailand
If your country is not listed under visa exemption or VoA, youβll need to apply for an appropriate visa (such as a non-immigrant volunteer visa) in advance via your local Thai embassy or consulate.
π¬ Volunteer in Thailand Visa & Arrival Card (TDAC): How to Complete the Online Form
When youβre preparing for your trip, the volunteer in Thailand visa & health safety checklist now includes a brand-new Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system. Thailand has replaced the paper TM6 form with this online Arrival Card, which every non-Thai national must complete before entry.
Step-by-step:
- Go to the official site and click βArrival Card.β
- Enter your personal details: Last name, first name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, and visa number (if applicable). Click Continue.
- Add your travel and stay info: Date of arrival, transport type, purpose of stay (volunteering), and your address in Thailand. Click Continue.
- Complete the health declaration: List any countries visited in the previous 14 days (required by the Ministry of Public Health).
- Review and confirm: Check the summary carefully and correct any errors.
- Provide your email: Your TDAC PDF will be sent here; you must show it on arrival (digital or printed).
- Submit and download: Accept the terms, submit, and your card is generated immediately. Download or print the TDAC and keep it with you throughout your stay.
Tip: The Arrival Card is separate from your visa exemption or Visa on Arrival status. Always verify your nationalityβs entry route before travel.
